We voted. As apparently did many. And by pushing the evergreen Lewis Hamilton into second, proved that cycling has now officially seeped into the psyche of Britain's sporting populace.
Chris Hoy is the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2008."After the year I've had and the whole team has had, to be crowned Sports Personality of the Year, it just means so much. This is the big one and this is just unbelievable," said Hoy.
"Standing here holding it in my hands, looking at the names on this trophy, it's quite incredible."
We know all too well the generosity of this man. "The first person, or the first group of people I have to thank are the public who voted for me because I'm just overwhelmed," he said.
And these cycling folks don't like to walk away from an event unless they make a clean sweep. So as well as Hoy's wonderful win, Team GB took the Team Award, with no surprises when Dave Brailsford took the Manager's Award.
We're very proud of them all.
